RECOMMENDATIONS IF YOU ARE IN A COLLISION

1. Turn off your car, even if you believe that the collision is minor.

2. If there are any parties that are injured, call for an ambulance immediately.

3. Contact the police or sheriff’s department immediately.

4. Obtain the other driver’s name, address, telephone number, and insurance information.

5. Record the names and addresses of all witnesses and all comments that they make at the scene of the collision.

6. If possible, take pictures of the scene of the collision. Pay close attention to any skid marks and damage to all vehicles involved, as well as the street location.

7. Never admit to the police or anyone else at the scene of the collision that it was your fault. Anything you say can and will be used against you to defeat your potential claim for compensation.

8. Seek medical treatment as soon as possible even if you feel that you have not been injured or if your injuries are minor.

9. Report the collision to your insurance company immediately.

10. File a report with the State immediately if applicable.

11. Make a diagram of the collision scene while it is still clear in your mind.

12. Never submit to any request for a statement (recorded or otherwise) by the other driver’s insurance company. If such a statement is requested, contact your attorney immediately.

13. Make a list of all medical expenses, lost wages, and any other incidental expenses related to your injuries.

14. Never sign a release from the other driver’s insurance company until you have contacted an attorney.

15. Immediately take photographs of your injuries from various views/angles.

16. Keep written records of the time you have lost from work and the total of your lost wages.

17. Before you accept any monies from the insurance company for damages to your vehicle, and or the body shop begins the repairs, contact your attorney with this information.
